Welcome to the love story of Debbie and Wendy a Silver Beaver tale that bloomed later in life, defying conventional timelines, societal expectations, and the long-standing lesbian tradition of renting a U-Haul before the second date. (We waited. Mostly. We're very proud.)
This is what happens when two women who'd already lived full lives, collected a few grey hairs, and learned exactly what they wanted decided to go ahead and want it out loud.
Meet Debbie. She's a seasoned emcee, auctioneer, and speaker which is a polite way of saying she gets paid to talk, and somehow nobody's stopped her yet. As a fundraising consultant and auctioneer she partners with nonprofits and schools to elevate their fundraising experiences and help them raise more money than they thought possible. When Debbie isn't raising money for nonprofits, you'll find her hiking, camping, or kayaking on some impossibly gorgeous Colorado mountain lake.
Meet Wendy. She's the musical force behind the rock band Dear Marsha, pouring her whole heart and soul into her music and captivating audiences with raw talent and the kind of infectious energy that makes a Tuesday night feel like a festival. When Wendy isn't nerding out on all things music and we mean all things, the woman has opinions about reverb, she's most likely hiking or camping somewhere in those same Colorado mountains, quite possibly in a two person kayak with Debbie.
Now, here's the part where fate shows off.
Their paths had crossed before, the way paths do. But it wasn't until June 2022 that the universe decided to stop being subtle. Wendy asked Debbie to emcee a women's music event the gloriously named Women Who Rock the Rockies and somewhere between the soundcheck and the standing ovation, the two of them felt a spark that took them both completely by surprise. The kind of connection that's frankly inconvenient to ignore. So they didn't.
What followed was a love story that proves age really is just a number when it comes to matters of the heart and that the best things sometimes show up after you've stopped scheduling them. These days, Debbie and Wendy are happily rewriting the rules of romance, building their own silver beaver fairytale out of laughter, love, big mountain adventures, harmonized opinions about music, and a shared calendar that somehow still requires negotiation.
Two women. One lake. Endless adventures. And yes eventually one U-Haul.
